Why INTERNSMART® for Students?

The demand for internships is rising as increasing numbers of young people are wanting to "get a leg up" on their future. The following are a list of reasons why INTERNSMART® is smart for youth:

• Service learning and career education starts in elementary school.
• Internship experiences begin in junior high. Internships are required in many high schools and post secondary schools for graduation.
• Students see internships as an effective way to move into the job market and/or enhance a college application.
• Students need help finding internships that "fit" their skills, interests.
• Students find themselves in an internship doing work that is far below their expectations or skill levels. "I filed papers all day."
• Students need effective supervisors and mentors as a key component of the experience.
• Students are expected to graduate from high school or college prepared to enter the workforce but know little about the world of work.
